Elversberg vs Bayern Munich ended with a narrow 2-1 victory for the German champions as Harry Kane scored his 150th goal for Bayern to settle a difficult contest against Bundesliga newcomers Elversberg, who once again demonstrated that they are capable of troubling Germany’s biggest clubs.

Bayern appeared to be in control after Lennart Karl opened the scoring in the 26th minute, but Elversberg responded impressively after half-time and levelled through Maurice Krattenmacher’s superb curling effort. Kane eventually restored Bayern’s advantage in the 72nd minute, producing the decisive finish at the near post to secure three points for the visitors.

The result leaves Bayern fourth in the Bundesliga after two wins and one draw, while Elversberg remain sixth despite suffering their first defeat after an impressive opening to life in the German top flight.

Bayern took the lead midway through the first half when Ismael Saibari delivered a low cross that deflected off Kane and fell perfectly into the path of Karl at the back post.

The young midfielder made no mistake, tapping the ball into the net to give Bayern an advantage that appeared to put them on course for another comfortable Bundesliga victory.

Elversberg, however, have already shown that they are not intimidated by the reputation of their opponents. Despite being Bundesliga newcomers, they had entered the contest having already defeated Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach during their historic first season in the division.

Their response to falling behind was therefore unsurprising, and they eventually found an equaliser through Krattenmacher in the 61st minute.

The midfielder produced an outstanding finish from the edge of the penalty area, curling the ball into the top corner beyond Bayern goalkeeper and leaving the visitors facing the prospect of dropping points against the promoted side.

Bayern needed an immediate response, and their most reliable goalscorer once again provided it.

Kane’s 150th Bayern goal arrived in the 72nd minute, when the England striker received the ball inside the penalty area before unleashing a powerful shot that beat Elversberg goalkeeper Nicolas Kristof at his near post.

The finish not only secured three important points for Bayern but also marked another extraordinary landmark in Kane’s already remarkable spell in Germany.

Kane has now scored 150 goals in just 153 appearances for Bayern across all competitions since joining the club from Tottenham in August 2023. His latest strike was also his 99th Bundesliga goal in his 97th appearance, bringing him within one goal of reaching the century in Germany’s top flight.

The goal was particularly significant because it was Kane’s first Bundesliga goal of the 2026/27 campaign, although his extraordinary scoring record means there is little reason to expect the wait for his next one to last long.

At 33, Kane remains one of the most prolific forwards in European football, and his continued productivity has placed him among the leading contenders for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, which will be awarded in London in October.

His record since the beginning of the 2023/24 season is particularly remarkable, as he has scored 10 more goals than any other player across Europe’s five major leagues during that period, while averaging a goal every 79 minutes.

Kane’s rapid progress in Germany has already seen him break major scoring records, and his latest milestone puts him even closer to another historic achievement.

The England captain reached 50 Bundesliga goals in only 43 appearances, establishing an all-time record for the fastest player to reach that total. With 99 goals now to his name, he is also on course to become the quickest player to reach 100 Bundesliga goals.

The current record belongs to Dieter Muller, who reached a century of Bundesliga goals in his 129th appearance. Kane has already reached 99 in 97 matches, meaning another goal in the coming games would put him in position to rewrite yet another piece of Bundesliga history.

His consistency has become one of Bayern’s greatest strengths, particularly in matches where the champions struggle to impose themselves for the full 90 minutes.

That was certainly the case against Elversberg, who showed considerable resilience after conceding early and forced Bayern to work hard for the victory.

What this means for Elversberg

For the promoted side, the defeat should not overshadow what has been an impressive beginning to their first Bundesliga campaign. Their victories over Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach demonstrated their ability to compete with established opposition, while their position in sixth place after three matches provides further evidence of their encouraging start.

Elversberg’s rise is particularly remarkable given that their town has a population of only around 13,000, making their presence in Germany’s top division an unusual and compelling football story.

Bayern, meanwhile, will be satisfied to have secured another three points, even if the performance was less convincing than they would have wanted.

Ultimately, the contest belonged to Kane, whose decisive second-half finish delivered victory and another landmark in his Bayern career. With 150 goals already recorded and 100 Bundesliga goals now within touching distance, the England striker continues to combine individual milestones with the kind of decisive contributions that can keep Bayern competing at the top of German football.
