Cricket veteran Andre Russell has officially announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) and will transition into a coaching role with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as their new “Power Coach.”

Andre , 37, closes the curtain on a stellar 12-year run in the league. Since debuting in 2012, he has become one of the most feared all-rounders in T20 cricket. Across 139 IPL matches, he amassed 2,651 runs at a strike-rate of 174.18 and picked up 123 wickets — numbers that underscore his explosive impact with both bat and ball.

Announcing the decision in a video message, Russell said he wanted to depart on his own terms. “I don’t want to fade out,” he explained, adding that stepping into coaching felt like the right next step.

Rather than joining another franchise at this stage, Russell chose to remain with KKR — the team he’s worn purple and gold for since 2014. He expressed that returning as a coach felt natural, citing loyalty and comfort in familiar surroundings.

His new title “Power Coach” reflects what made him such an asset — raw batting power, finishing ability and athletic
