Florida basketball split its two games to bridge the end of February into the start of March, losing on the road at the Georgia Bulldogs before coming back home to rout the Texas A&M Aggies. The UGA loss, however, was the Gators‘ first in six games overall and 12 games since the last time they lost to the ‘Dawgs.
Former UF head coach Mike White finally got his revenge after losing six straight games of his own to Florida since leaving Gainesville. The schadenfreude showed up in this week’s edition of the AP Poll Top 25, in which the Gators fell two spots to No. 5 as a result of the 88-83 loss in Athens.
Todd Golden’s gang enters the week with a 25-4 overall record with just two games to go, including a major Southeastern Conference matchup in Tuscaloosa against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Wednesday.
SEC schools in Coaches Poll top 25
The conference still has eight representatives in the AP Poll Top 25 this week, once again headlined by the top-ranked Auburn Tigers. The Tennessee Volunteers moved ahead of Florida at No. 4 while ‘Bama is ranked seventh to round out the top 10.
The remainder of the SEC’s schools are the 15th-ranked Missouri Tigers, 19th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats, 22nd-ranked Texas A&M and 25th-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs. The Vanderbilt Commodores earned the de facto No. 27 ranking with 78 votes while the Ole Miss Rebels brought in 13 of their own.
