Bulls’ Zach Collins out at least 4 weeks after wrist surgery

Collins underwent surgery on his left wrist after sustaining a non-displaced fracture during the second half of the Bulls’ 126-120 preseason victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. The procedure took place on Friday, and the team announced that he will be out for at least four weeks before being re-evaluated.

Last season, Collins averaged 6.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 64 games (12 starts) for Chicago and the San Antonio Spurs. Over his career (378 games, 83 starts) he has averaged 8.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

For the Bulls, this injury is significant because Collins was expected to serve as the primary backup to Nikola Vucevic at center this season, so his absence affects front-court depth. The timetable (“at least four weeks”) is tentative, and the actual return could depend on how the wrist heals and progresses in rehab.

In short, the Bulls will be without Collins for the early portion of the season, and this opens opportunities for other players to step up in his role. We’ll need to watch updates after the four-week mark to see how his recovery is going and when he might rejoin the lineup.
