Changes could be coming to the College Football Playoff format again

by

In just the first year of the new 12-team College Football Playoff format, we could be seeing another change as reported by Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports.

His sources are saying that the SEC and Big Ten are considering another expansion that would start after this coming season. The two conferences have what Dellenger called “sole discretion on the future CFP format starting in 2026,” which coincides with the new ESPN television deal.

This can only be good news for Notre Dame, as the chances to play for a title helped them this past fall and should going forward. Some of the changes that could happen are a 14-team field with the top two getting byes along with four automatic bids for the Big Ten and SEC or a 16-team with no byes.

As we saw, no teams that earned a bye advanced, so there is some questions about if that should be part of the playoff. It remains to be seen what kind of new format will be presented, but we should be bracing for changes in the future.
