Cole Palmer’s first-ever penalty misses against Leicester City

During Chelsea’s Premier League match against Leicester City on Sunday, Cole Palmer’s spot kick was saved by goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, ending his perfect penalty record.

After Jadon Sancho was fouled in the box, Hermansen fell to his left to keep out Palmer’s strike, saving the 22-year-old’sloweffort.

Prior to his attempt being turned down at Stamford Bridge, Palmer had the greatest penalty record in Premier League history. He was ranked higher on the all-time list than Premier League greats Dimitar Berbatov (nine out of nine) and Yaya Touré (11 out of 11) thanks to his 12-out of-12 penalty record.

Lately, the England international has struggled with his form. In his last eight games across all competitions, he has failed to score and has squandered numerous good opportunities.

He had a fantastic season last season, scoring 27 goals and dishing out 15 assists. Palmer’s lack of goals does not worry him, according to head coach Enzo Maresca, who made this statement prior to Chelsea’s match against Leicester.

“You are happier when you score a goal because your goals contribute to the team’s victory. However, Cole is doing well overall. “He’s happy,” Maresca said at a Friday news conference.

“He is aware that he has had difficulty scoring goals lately, but he says that this is a common occurrence during the season. You don’t think it’s affecting him when you watch him during the training session; he’s amazing.”

Prior to the weekend, Palmer and Callum Wilson were the only two players in the previous five Premier League seasons to have a 100% penalty conversion rate.
