In a clear update to his previously vague retirement comment, Cristiano Ronaldo said on Tuesday that when he said he would retire “soon,” what he meant was “probably one or two years.”

Speaking at a global summit via video from Riyadh, the 40-year-old Portugal forward—who extended his contract with Al‑Nassr until 2027—said he still feels “quick and sharp” but acknowledged his playing days are nearing their end.

Ronaldo also confirmed that the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 in the USA, Canada and Mexico will be his last appearance at the global tournament stage, given he will be 41 at the time.

During the discussion, he reflected on his long career since debuting in 2002, noted that he still enjoys scoring and playing for club and country, and emphasised his readiness for what comes next beyond football.
