Faf du Plessis has announced that he will not enter the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction, choosing instead to feature in next year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The former South Africa captain confirmed the decision via a social-media statement, writing that after 14 seasons in the IPL he feels the time is right for a “new challenge.” He thanked the Indian leagues, franchises and fans for memories and camaraderie.
Du Plessis, 41, played for multiple franchises over his long IPL career — including Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals — and scored over 4,700 runs in the tournament.
In his statement, he said the decision also reflects a desire to manage his workload better — and to embrace a different environment and atmosphere by playing in the PSL next season.
Although Du Plessis isn’t ruling out a future return to the IPL, this move marks the end of a significant chapter in his career. For now, his focus will be on the PSL and the new challenge ahead.
