Emma Raducanu’s Coaching Change: A New Chapter in Her Tennis Career

Emma Raducanu has decided to part ways with coach Vladimir Platenik following an unsuccessful two-week trial, marking the end of their partnership just after her first-round exit at Indian Wells. Despite the coaching change, Raducanu progressed to the second round of the 2025 Miami Open with a commanding straight-sets victory over Japan’s Sayaka Ishii on Wednesday.

Raducanu’s Search for a New Coach After Split with Platenik

The British No 2, who is recovering from recent challenges, confirmed the split through her spokesperson:

“Emma and Vlado have parted ways,” the spokesperson said. “Emma has the utmost respect for Vlado and the work they started, but it wasn’t heading in the right direction. Emma is now focused on performing well in Miami after a solid start and will continue looking for the right coach.”

Raducanu initially recruited Vladimir Platenik, a Slovakian coach, for a two-week trial before the Indian Wells tournament, but after her first-round exit against Moyuka Uchijima, the trial came to an end.

Raducanu Reflects on Miami Open Performance

Following her win in Miami, Raducanu shared her thoughts saying:
“I’m really pleased to have got through that. It’s not easy to face someone in the first round who is younger, dangerous, and in good form. I’m really proud of how I competed today. It hasn’t been easy for me coming into this, but I think I put on a really solid performance.”

Raducanu’s Continued Search for the Right Coach

Sources close to Raducanu revealed that the decision to part ways with Platenik was mutual, following a productive week of training. Raducanu is still seeking a long-term coach after the departure of Nick Cavaday, who stepped down for health reasons after Raducanu’s third-round exit at the Australian Open.

Raducanu is now back in search of a new coach to guide her through the remainder of the Miami Open 2025 and beyond. She remains focused on achieving her best performance and will continue her coaching search with a clear vision for the future.

Raducanu’s Strong Start in Miami Despite Coaching Change

Raducanu, now the last British woman standing at the Miami Open, is focused on progressing further in the tournament. She will next face more significant challenges, but her recent straight-set victory has given her renewed confidence.

“I think it will be an extremely tough match ahead, but I’m going to compete for every point,” Raducanu said about her next opponent. “She’s a great person, and it will be nice to say ‘hello’ to her on tour when we meet.”

Katie Boulter’s Miami Open Exit

In the same tournament, Katie Boulter was eliminated in the first round of the 2025 Miami Open, falling 6-4, 6-2 to American Peyton Stearns. Boulter led 3-1 in the first set before Stearns came back strong, winning four straight games to close out the set and ultimately dominating the second.
