England national football team will host Uruguay national football team and Japan national football team in friendly matches at Wembley Stadium next March as part of their final preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

The set-up sees England clash with Uruguay on Friday, 27 March, followed by Japan on Tuesday, 31 March. These will serve as the last home fixtures for the side before the final 26-man squad is confirmed in May.

The two opponents — ranked 16th and 18th respectively in the world — were chosen to offer strong tests against quality sides from outside Europe, giving England exposure to different playing styles ahead of their World Cup group stages.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel said the games will help solidify plans for the tournament, noting that testing the team against top-20 non-European sides was a priority as preparations ramp up.

With eng drawn into Group L — alongside Croatia national football team, Ghana national football team and Panama national football team — these March friendlies offer a final rehearsal before the real business begins in June.
