FIFA has unveiled a new $60 “Supporter Entry Tier” ticket category for the 2026 World Cup in response to widespread criticism over high ticket costs and concerns about affordability for fans. The discounted tier will be available for all 104 matches of the tournament, including the final, and is intended to make attending games more accessible for supporters of qualified national teams.
Under the revised system, these $60 tickets will make up 10 percent of each Participating Member Association’s (PMA) ticket allocation, a pool of seats reserved specifically for fans of teams competing in each match. Combined with the existing Supporter Value Tier, half of each PMA’s allotment now falls under more affordable categories, while the remaining tickets are evenly split between Standard and Premier tiers. National federations will manage distribution to priority fan groups, with criteria set locally to target long-time supporters. Administrative fees will be waived for refunds when teams are eliminated in the group stage.
The move follows intense pushback from fan organizations, most notably Football Supporters Europe (FSE), which had labelled the initial ticket pricing “extortionate” and argued that dynamic pricing models could put the World Cup out of reach for many ordinary supporters. Prior to the change, the cheapest World Cup tickets for group-stage matches were priced significantly higher, and the most affordable seats for marquee matches were seen as prohibitively expensive by many fans and critics alike.
Critics have welcomed the introduction of a lower-priced tier but say it still falls short of addressing core affordability issues. FSE and other supporter groups have described the limited number of discounted tickets as too small a concession given the scale of the backlash, noting that only a small percentage of spectators will actually benefit from the $60 price point.
