India will aim to put their disastrous Test series defeat behind them and focus entirely on winning the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa national cricket team, Rahul said on the eve of the first game in Ranchi.

Rahul, 33, has been handed the captaincy after regular skipper Shubman Gill was ruled out with a neck injury The Indian team — bruised by a heavy Test defeat in Guwahati and a 408-run loss that left questions over their form — are determined to regroup in the white-ball format.

As Rahul put it: “That’s what we will focus on, and forget what happened a week ago.” He emphasised that the aim is to deliver collective performances in each match and secure the series.

The squad gets a boost with the return of former captains Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma — both retired from Tests but reintegrated into the ODI side — a move Rahul hailed for the experience and confidence they bring.

With the ODIs starting soon, Rahul and his team are clear about their objective: leave past failures behind and get back to winning ways.
