Surprising Jets Quarterback Rumors: Frank Reich Reportedly Favors Carson Wentz Among Other Options

Jets Quarterback Rumors

The latest Jets quarterback rumors suggest the New York Jets are actively exploring veteran options as they search for stability under center ahead of the upcoming NFL season.

With the franchise holding the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, many initially believed the Jets would select a young quarterback to begin a long-term rebuild. However, recent reports indicate the organization may instead pursue a temporary solution at the position while evaluating future prospects.

According to SNY insider Connor Hughes, the Jets quarterback rumors currently revolve around three potential targets: Geno Smith, Carson Wentz and Jacoby Brissett. Among those options, new offensive coordinator Frank Reich reportedly has a clear preference.

Frank Reich Reportedly Prefers Carson Wentz

Among the names linked to the team, the latest Jets quarterback rumors indicate that Carson Wentz is the quarterback Frank Reich would most like to bring to New York.

Hughes reported that Reich remains close with Wentz despite speculation that their relationship deteriorated during their time together with the Indianapolis Colts. Contrary to that perception, sources suggest the tension at the time was largely between Wentz and the Colts’ front office rather than the coaching staff.

Because of that history, the Jets quarterback rumors connecting Wentz and Reich have gained credibility. Reich previously worked closely with Wentz during the quarterback’s most productive years and could believe the veteran still has untapped potential in the right system.

Wentz has spent the past few seasons largely in backup roles after his tenure with Indianapolis ended, but he still has starting experience and familiarity with Reich’s offensive philosophy.

Geno Smith Also Drawing Interest

Geno Smith

Another name frequently appearing in Jets quarterback rumors is Las Vegas Raiders veteran Geno Smith.

Smith remains under contract with the Raiders but could become available through either a trade or a release. Reports suggest Las Vegas may be preparing to draft quarterback Fernando Mendoza, which could make Smith expendable.

Last season, Smith completed 67.4 percent of his passes for 3,025 yards and 19 touchdowns but also led the league with 17 interceptions. While the numbers were inconsistent, analysts have pointed out that Smith played in an unstable offensive environment.

Supporters of the move argue that if Smith were placed in a more organized system, he could potentially rediscover the Pro Bowl form he displayed earlier in his career with Seattle.

Still, among the current Jets quarterback rumored interests, Smith does not appear to be Reich’s first choice.

Jacoby Brissett Could Be the Most Productive Option

Jacoby Brissett

The third quarterback linked to the Jets may actually have been the most productive player statistically last season.

Jacoby Brissett, currently with the Arizona Cardinals, delivered a strong campaign while filling in for injured starter Kyler Murray. In 14 appearances, including 12 starts, Brissett threw for 3,366 yards and 23 touchdowns while completing nearly 65 percent of his passes.

Those performances have made him a legitimate candidate for Jets quarterback position, though acquiring him may prove more complicated than signing a free agent.

Brissett remains under contract with Arizona, meaning the Cardinals would need to be willing to trade him. Reports indicate that Arizona’s willingness to move Brissett may depend on whether the team can secure veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in free agency.

Jets Facing Limited Options at Quarterback

The reality behind the Jets quarterback rumors is that the franchise finds itself in a difficult position.

While the team holds a premium draft pick, this year’s quarterback class is not widely viewed as strong enough to justify selecting a signal-caller so early. That leaves the Jets looking toward experienced veterans who could act as bridge starters while the organization develops a long-term plan.

Unfortunately for New York, the team is unlikely to attract the most high-profile free-agent quarterbacks on the market.

As a result, the Jets quarterback rumors involving Wentz, Smith and Brissett represent what many analysts consider the second tier of available options.

A Decision That Could Shape the Jets’ Future

Although none of the three quarterbacks would generate massive excitement among fans, the decision still carries significant implications for the franchise.

A stable veteran could help guide the Jets through a rebuilding phase while the front office identifies a long-term quarterback solution. On the other hand, selecting the wrong player could extend the team’s struggles at the position.

For now, the Jets quarterback rumors continue to swirl around the same three names. If reports are accurate, Frank Reich’s preference for Carson Wentz could ultimately shape the direction of New York’s quarterback search as the offseason approaches.
