JImmies men’s hoops get 86-77 win over Dakota State

Feb. 21—JAMESTOWN — The University of Jamestown men’s basketball team came up with clutch shots when they needed them to get an 86-77 win over Dakota State University (South Dakota) on Friday, Feb. 21, at Harold Newman Arena.

The first half was an offensive explosion with the two teams combining to score 84 points as the Jimmies headed into the half up 46-40. In the opening 20 minutes, the Jimmies shot 63.3% from the field, 50% from three and 3-for-5 from the free throw line. On the other side, the Trojans shot 55.2% from the field, 38.5% from three and 3-for-5 from the free throw line. The Trojans outrebounded the Jimmies 13-12 but the Jimmies scored 14 points off eight turnovers. The Jimmies gave up seven points off six turnovers.

The Jimmies were led by Anthony Walters’ 11 points while the Trojans’ Lane Tietz and Colby Dillenbeck each had eight points.

The Trojans were able to cut the deficit down to 46-42 before the Jimmies responded to take a 48-42 lead. After the Trojans once again cut the deficit to 49-45, the Jimmies kept the trend going taking a commanding 71-60 lead on an Owen Hektner three before the Trojans once again fought back to make it 72-68. The Jimmies did enough down the stretch to get the 86-77 win.
