In a surprising development, former Ireland captain Johnny Sexton has been appointed as an assistant coach for the British & Irish Lions’ 2025 tour to Australia. Sexton, who retired after the 2023 Rugby World Cup, will join head coach Andy Farrell’s coaching team, bringing his extensive experience and leadership to the squad.
Sexton’s appointment was not part of the initial coaching announcement but has since been confirmed. He will work alongside coaches Simon Easterby, Andrew Goodman, John Fogarty, Richard Wigglesworth, and John Dalziel. The Lions’ 2025 tour will commence with a match against Argentina in Dublin on June 20, followed by five warm-up games and a three-test series against Australia. The first test against the Wallabies is scheduled for July 19
