Lady Vols record 40-point win over Texas A&M, advance to SEC Tournament second round

The 2025 SEC women’s basketball tournament tipped off Wednesday with No. 9 seed Tennessee (22-8) against No. 16 seed Texas A&M (10-19).

The Lady Vols defeated Texas A&M, 77-37, advancing to the second round at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina. Tennessee will next play No. 8 seed Vanderbilt on Thursday at 11 a.m. EST. The second-round in-state matchup will be televised by SEC Network.

Talaysia Cooper was listed as questionable for the Lady Vols on Wednesday against Texas A&M. She led all scorers with 19 points. Cooper converted 8-of-15 field goal attempts and 3-of-4 free throw attempts in 23 minutes. The 6-foot redshirt sophomore guard also led Tennessee in rebounds (8), assists (3) and steals (3).

Jewel Spear (11), Zee Spearman (11) and Samara Spencer (10) were Tennessee’s other scoring leaders against the Aggies.

Tennessee totaled 39 bench points, 36 points in the paint, 37 points off turnovers, 15 second chance points and eight fast break points in Wednesday’s 40-point win.

The Lady Vols led the first-round game for 29 minutes, 36 seconds and the contest had three lead changes.
