Lady Vols’ redshirt sophomore named to SEC All-Defensive Team

Tennessee redshirt sophomore Talaysia Cooper was named to the SEC All-Defensive Team and earned Second-Team All-SEC honors when the conference coaches announced their weekly awards Tuesday.

A South Carolina transfer, Cooper was a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2022-23. She appeared in all 29 regular-season games, including 26 starts for the

Lady Vols.

Cooper leads Tennessee in points per game (16.7), rebounds per game (5.6), steals per game (3.0) and blocks per game (0.7). She recorded a .450 field goal percentage during the regular season and is second on the team in assists per game (3.2). Cooper has scored 10-plus points 25 times and has eclipsed the 20-point mark in 11 games and scored 10 or more points in 12 quarters this season.

Cooper has recorded three double-doubles and totaled 10-plus rebounds in three games. She ranks No. 1 in the SEC in steals with 88, tenth nationally in steals and 11th in the country in steals per game.

Cooper had a career-high nine steals against Oklahoma and tied Holly Warlick for third all time for steals in a single game. Her 88 steals are the most in a season by a Lady Vol since Alexis Hornbuckle (104).
