May 30, 2025 Liverpool Football Club have officially announced the signing of Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of £29.5 million (€35 million). The 24-year-old right-back has agreed to a five-year contract, becoming the first acquisition under new manager Arne Slot.

A Strategic Replacement for Alexander-Arnold

Frimpong’s arrival comes in the wake of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure to Real Madrid. The Dutch defender is expected to fill the void left by Alexander-Arnold, bringing his dynamic playing style to Liverpool’s right flank. Frimpong expressed his enthusiasm about joining the club, stating, “It was a no-brainer. When Liverpool showed interest, I told my agents, ‘Just get this done.'”

Impressive Track Record at Leverkusen

During his tenure at Bayer Leverkusen, Frimpong made 133 appearances, contributing 23 goals and numerous assists. He played a pivotal role in Leverkusen’s historic 2023–24 season, where the team clinched their first Bundesliga title and completed an unbeaten league campaign.

Frimpong’s versatility allows him to operate both as a right-back and a winger, attributes that align well with Slot’s tactical approach. His pace, dribbling skills, and attacking prowess are expected to add a new dimension to Liverpool’s gameplay.

Homegrown Talent Returns to England

Born in Amsterdam and raised in Manchester, Frimpong began his football journey in Manchester City’s youth academy before moving to Celtic in 2019. His return to the Premier League not only bolsters Liverpool’s defensive options but also satisfies homegrown player requirements, benefiting the club’s squad registration.

What’s Next

As Liverpool prepares for the upcoming season, Frimpong’s integration into the squad is anticipated to be seamless, given his experience in top-flight football and familiarity with English football culture. Fans eagerly await his debut, hoping he will continue his impressive form and contribute to Liverpool’s pursuit of silverware.
