Luka Doncic: “The goal is the championship, obviously”

LUKA DONCIC

Since joining the Los Angeles Lakers, Luka Doncic has made it obvious that winning the title is his top priority.

The AllStar guard strengthened his hopes of winning title Thursday after defeating the New York Knicks 113-109 in overtime. “Obviously, winning the championship is the aim. In post-game interview, Doncic stated, “There are no other goals than that.”

Doncic discussed what he believes makes the difference in pivotal situations when questioned about the Lakers’ strategy for comebacks. Being more physical is the first step. In the fourth quarter, we were physical, got stops, and were just playing our basketball offensively. In the first half, I believe we were just a little careless,” he added.

The Lakers had to overcome a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter, but they won 19–6 thanks to Doncic, James’ free throws, and Gabe Vincent’s game-winning three-pointer. Jalen Brunson gave New York a valiant performance, scoring 39 points and dishing out 10 assists, but the Knicks were unable to win the game, especially after Brunson injured his right ankle during overtime.

Doncic also discussed the team’s chemistry. Since joining the Lakers, he has been averaging 23.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 8.1 assists. The chemistry alone—I believe that everyone gets along—is what matters most. We have a good connection. Although there is undoubtedly space for improvement, I believe we get along well, so I am thrilled to be a member of this squad,” he said.

With the win, the Lakers extended their streak to eight games and improved their record to 40-21. LeBron James contributed 31 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists in the win, further proving the two stars’ ability to lead Los Angeles through tough challenges
