Sixty-two men and 14 women shot clean in the championship compound open divisions on the first day of The Vegas Shoot in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA on Thursday, all shooting a perfect score of 300.

Defending champion Mathias Fullerton and former winner Bodie Turner made a big statement as they shared the lead, each hitting the X10-ring with their 30 arrows. Isabelle Geissbuhler topped the female roster with 27 arrows into the bullseye.

The compound men’s field saw a total of 62 clean scores, including other former winners like Mike Schloesser, Kris Schaff and Dave Cousins, and 14 women scored clear on the first day, including defending champion Tanja Gellenthien, along with Andrea Becerra, Linda Ochoa-Anderson, Paige Pearce, Sara Lopez, Ella Gibson and Toja Ellison.

Thomas Chirault led the recurve men’s roster with 298, while Ana Caetano topped the women’s list with 294.

As well as moving to a new venue in the middle of the Las Vegas Strip, the event schedule has changed this year, with the championship divisions – where the world’s top professionals compete – beginning on Thursday, and the amateur ‘flights’ divisions starting on the Friday.

The first three days of the Vegas Shoot act as the sixth and final stage of the Indoor Archery World Series, with each archer shooting 90 arrows over three days, from Thursday to Saturday.

Once the points have been calculated, the season’s top 16 archers in the recurve men’s, recurve women’s, compound men’s and compound women’s elite rankings are invited to compete in the Indoor Archery World Series Finals.

Live broadcast from the medal matches starts at 16h00 local time on Sunday on archery+.

Scoring continues on Friday in Las Vegas.
