The Dallas Mavericks have officially fired general manager Nico Harrison, ending his four-year tenure amid mounting fan anger and a dismal 3-8 start in the 2025-26 season.
Harrison, who took the helm in 2021, had earned an extension following the Mavericks’ 2024 NBA Finals appearance. However, his legacy was overshadowed by the February 2025 blockbuster trade that sent superstar Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis and draft assets—widely criticized as mismanaged.
Owners and fans alike had voiced growing frustration. Team owner Patrick Dumont said in a statement the decision demonstrated a renewed commitment to returning the franchise to championship contention.
In the interim, assistants Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi will serve as co-general managers while a search begins for a permanent successor.
This move marks a dramatic pivot for the Mavericks, as they now embark on what many view as a rebuilding phase, navigating the fallout of a fan-beloved star’s departure and the expectations that followed.
