Newcastle’s fast start lays platform for 4-1 thrashing of Everton

Newcastle United stormed to a commanding 4-1 away win over Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium — their first top-flight away victory of the season.

From kick-off, Newcastle signalled their intent: just 52 seconds in, Malick Thiaw rose to meet a corner and headed the ball into the net, registering the fastest goal of the 2025–26 Premier League season.

Buoyed by the lightning-fast opener, the Magpies didn’t relent. In the 25th minute, Lewis Miley doubled their lead — a left-footed effort that slipped beneath Everton’s goalkeeper.

Just before halftime, team struck again, with Nick Woltemade brilliantly chipping the stranded goalkeeper to make it 3-0 — a lead Everton simply couldn’t recover from.

Early in the second half, Thiaw added his second — and Newcastle’s fourth — capitalising once more on defensive frailties in the home side’s back line.

Everton found a consolation through Kiernan Dewsbury‑Hall in the 69th minute, but by then the result was long decided.

The win lifts team to 11th place on 18 points after 13 games, level with Everton (who drop to 14th). More importantly for the Magpies, it ends a protracted away-day winless run and delivers a massive confidence boost under boss Eddie Howe — who celebrated his 48th birthday with the emphatic result.

It was a ruthless performance — early pressure, clinical finishing, and punishing defensive errors from Everton — and a statement that Newcastle may be turning a corner this season.
