On Day 1 of the second Test between South Africa national cricket team and India national cricket team at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, South Africa ended the session at 247 for 6 after 81.5 overs.
The Proteas’ openers, Aiden Markram (38) and Ryan Rickelton (35), posted a solid 82-run stand to begin their innings. They were followed by captain Temba Bavuma (41) and Tristan Stubbs (49) who added another 84 for the third wicket — yet none of the top four reached a fifty.
India fought back late in the day, primarily through wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav who claimed 3 for 48, stripping away the momentum Africa had built. Support came from Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj, who picked up key wickets in the closing session.
With several batters getting starts but failing to convert, South Africa are in a decent position but without a standout innings to turn the tide decisively. India, meanwhile, have stifled a strong position and will look to press early on Day 2.
