The Oklahoma City Thunder launched their 2025 NBA playoff campaign with a resounding statement, dismantling the Memphis Grizzlies 131–80 in Game 1 of their Western Conference first-round series. This 51-point victory not only marked the largest Game 1 win in NBA postseason history but also ranked as the fifth-largest playoff margin ever recorded.
Dominant Team Performance
Despite All-Star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander contributing a modest 15 points, the Thunder’s depth shone through. Aaron Wiggins led with 21 points off the bench, while Jalen Williams added 20 points, five rebounds, and six assists. Rookie center Chet Holmgren impressed with a double-double, tallying 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Oklahoma City’s defense was relentless, forcing 24 turnovers and converting them into 27 fast-break points. Their aggressive play led to a staggering 34–5 run spanning the first and second quarters, effectively sealing the game early.
Grizzlies Struggle to Find Rhythm
The Grizzlies faced challenges on both ends of the court. Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. combined for a disappointing 8-of-30 shooting. As a team, Memphis shot just 34.4% from the field and 17.6% from beyond the arc.
Morant acknowledged the team’s lackluster performance, stating, “We just didn’t play our game. We’ve got to regroup and come back stronger.” Interim coach Tuomas Iisalo emphasized the need for adjustments ahead of Game 2.
Game 2 is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City. The Thunder aim to maintain their momentum, while the Grizzlies seek to bounce back and even the series.
