Golden State Warriors Dominate Timberwolves in Game 1, Despite Curry’s Injury

by Desmond Omolu

In a commanding performance, the Golden State Warriors secured a 99–88 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series on Tuesday night. The win was particularly impressive given the circumstances, as Warriors star Stephen Curry exited the game in the second quarter due to a left hamstring strain and did not return.

Warriors’ Resilience Amidst Curry’s Injury

Curry had been instrumental in the Warriors‘ strong start, contributing 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, before his injury. His absence could have been a significant setback, but Golden State’s depth and experience came to the forefront. Draymond Green stepped up with a double-double, recording 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Buddy Hield added 16 points off the bench, including several key three-pointers that helped maintain the Warriors’ lead.

The Golden State’s defense was also a highlight, limiting the Timberwolves to just 31 points in the first half—their second-lowest scoring half in franchise history. Golden State’s ability to execute both offensively and defensively without their star player underscored their championship pedigree.

Timberwolves’ Missed Opportunities

The Timberwolves, despite entering the game as the higher seed and favorites, struggled to capitalize on Curry’s absence. Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 22 points but shot just 9-for-22 from the field. The team also faced challenges from beyond the arc, missing all 15 of their three-point attempts in the first half. While they managed to narrow the deficit to nine points in the fourth quarter, they were unable to mount a sustained comeback.

What’s Next

With Curry’s injury status uncertain, the Warriors will need to continue to rely on their depth and experience in the upcoming games. Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday at 7:30 PM CT, and the Warriors will aim to take a commanding 2–0 series lead before returning to San Francisco.

The Timberwolves, on the other hand, will need to regroup and find ways to exploit the Warriors’ defense without their star guard. Adjustments in their offensive strategy and improved shooting will be crucial if they hope to even the series in Game 2.

As the series progresses, the Warriors’ ability to adapt without Curry and the Timberwolves’ resilience in the face of adversity will be key storylines to watch.
