In the opening game of the 2025 NBA Western Conference first-round playoffs, the Golden State Warriors secured a 95–85 victory over the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center in Houston, taking a 1–0 lead in the series.

Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 31 points on 12-of-19 shooting, including five three-pointers, and added six rebounds. This performance marked his 15th consecutive playoff game scoring at least 20 points, underscoring his consistent excellence in postseason play.

Jimmy Butler contributed 25 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and five steals in his playoff debut with Golden State. His presence added a new dimension to the Warriors’ offense, providing leadership and clutch scoring.

Brandin Podziemski also made a significant impact, adding 14 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. His versatility and energy were instrumental in maintaining the team’s momentum throughout the game.

The Warriors built a 23-point lead in the third quarter, showcasing their offensive prowess and defensive intensity. Although the Rockets narrowed the gap to four points in the fourth quarter, Curry responded with a crucial three-pointer to extend the lead. Moses Moody’s three-pointer initiated a 7–0 run that sealed the win for Golden State.

Alperen Şengün led the Rockets with 26 points and nine rebounds, providing a strong inside presence. However, the team struggled offensively, shooting only 39.1% from the field and committing 17 turnovers, which the Warriors converted into 25 points. Jalen Green and Fred VanVleet combined for just 17 points on 7-of-34 shooting, highlighting the team’s challenges in the backcourt.

Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, in Houston. The Rockets will aim to adjust their strategy and even the series, while the Warriors seek to build on their momentum and extend their lead.
