Matheus Cunha, the forward for Manchester United, has attributed his recent inclusion in the Brazil national football team under coach Carlo Ancelotti to United’s resurgence under manager Ruben Amorim.
Since Ancelotti took charge in May 2025 to prepare Brazil for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, Cunha has been named in all four squad selections so far.
The 26-year-old says United’s improved performances this season helped him showcase his qualities and bolster his case at international level. “Manchester United is a club that should always be at the top… I’m grateful to be playing in a side that’s delivering and competing well,” he said. Matheus
Cunha also pointed to his versatility as a major factor:
“Knowing that the manager trusts me to play in multiple positions is important… You need to deliver and prove that you’re ready.”
Reflecting on past frustrations, he acknowledged missing out on the Qatar 2022 squad while at Atlético Madrid was a painful experience—but one that helped him grow.
Looking ahead, Cunha said the new Brazil cycle “feels different… the direction is clear, and everyone understands what we aim to achieve.”
With United climbing again and Brazil rebuilding under Ancelotti, Cunha appears firmly positioned at the crossroads of club success and national team ambition.
