World No. 1 tennis star Carlos Alcaraz has announced he will not compete for Spain in the 2025 Davis Cup Finals in Bologna because of a right-hamstring injury.
Alcaraz disclosed that medical tests revealed an edema in his right hamstring, which a team of doctors has advised makes competing too risky. In a message on social media, he expressed deep disappointment, saying he heads home “heartbroken.”
He added, “I’ve always said that playing for Spain is the greatest thing there is, and I was really looking forward to helping us fight for the Davis Cup.”
Carlos reportedly aggravated the injury during his loss to Jannik Sinner in the ATP Finals final. His withdrawal leaves a significant gap in Spain’s squad just ahead of their quarter-final tie against the Czech Republic.
This is a major blow for both Alcaraz personally and for Spain, as the young star has long expressed his desire to win the Davis Cup for his country.
