Everton have been informed that their appeal against the red card issued to midfielder Idrissa Gueye has been rejected. The dismissal came after Gueye slapped his teammate Michael Keane during their 1–0 Premier League win at Manchester United.
Gueye was sent off in the 13th minute for violent conduct — only the third time in Premier League history a player has been dismissed for striking a teammate.
Everton lodged an appeal immediately after the match but received no explanation for its rejection. As a result, Gueye will serve a three-match ban, sidelining him for upcoming games against Newcastle United, Bournemouth F.C. and Nottingham Forest F.C..
Despite the incident, Everton secured a dramatic 1–0 victory at Old Trafford, with Kiernan Dewsbury‑Hall scoring the decisive goal while the team played with ten men.
Manager David Moyes said the club “moved on quite quickly” after the incident in the dressing room and accepted that the appeal failed. He underlined the need for passion and commitment — but acknowledged that the way it was expressed on the pitch was unacceptable.
