Blaze FC produced the performance of the weekend contender with a commanding 4-2 victory over Rebels FC in the first round of the UI Unity Cup.

The encounter started brightly. Blaze was awarded a penalty in the early minutes of the match with Olaide Genesis stepping up to convert the chance sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. Sambo Afeez capitalized on a sloppy defending to double the away side’s advantage, before Genesis second and Blaze’s third all but settled the fixture before the break.

However, Rebels FC emerged from the half-time break looking different, and the pressure paid off as Damilare Arowosola pulled one back for the hosts. Akande David added another with a sublime effort from outside the box to bring Rebels within one goal of their rivals. Unfortunately for the Rebels, all hopes of a comeback disappeared when Babalola Damilare produced a goal of the tournament contender to put the game to bed.

The four-goal haul makes Blaze FC one of the most dangerous attacking teams in this season’s UI Unity Cup, and the victory could prove significant in the race for qualification.

The game also had its share of disciplinary issues. Oladimeji Bamidele of Rebels FC entered the referee’s book, while Blaze FC players Ashaolu Elijah Abiola and Oyetunde Samuel Bamise also received yellow cards.

United Superstars Football Club (USFC) secured a comfortable 3-1 victory over Diggers FC to begin their UI Unity Cup campaign in style.

Olajide Demilade Daniel was the star of the show, scoring twice to put USF firmly in command of the contest. Ayegbogbon Olamide Emmanuel added another goal to ensure there would be no late drama.

Diggers FC managed to pull one goal back through Aderibigbe Ayomide, but it proved to be little more than a consolation.

The victory is a display of USF’s growing reputation as one of the teams to watch in the competition. Their balance in attack and defense has made them difficult opponents, and these three points further strengthens their position.

Discipline was an issue for Diggers FC, with Ayinde Oluwaseye and Aliu Taofeek Olatunji both receiving yellow cards during the match.

Eme Asuquo emerged as the hero, scoring the decisive goal that handed Goal Diggers FC a narrow 1-0 victory.

It was a tense affair with chances at both ends, but Goal Diggers FC showed greater composure when it mattered most.

TomTom FC’s Balogun Abdullahi received a yellow card, while Goal Diggers FC defender Ayomide Joseph was sent off after receiving a second booking. Team-mate Egbu Morgan was also shown a yellow card.

Despite finishing the match with ten men, Goal Diggers FC held on to secure an important victory and three valuable points in the UI Unity Cup standings.
