Simran Shaikh
In the first of the four WPL 2025 games at the Brabourne Stadium, Gujarat Giants (GG) chose to bowl first against Mumbai Indians (MI) after Ashleigh Gardner called it at the toss.
GG decided to add hard-hitting middle-order batsman Simran Shaikh, who plays for Mumbai in the domestic circuit, to the XI in place of Dayalan Hemalatha, who was struggling. MI entered unaltered.
The square limits were 52 and 58 meters away, and the surface utilized was somewhat off-center. At 68 meters, the straight hit was the longest. According to former India captain Mithali Raj, the red-soil pitch was “out and out batting surface,” well-rolled, and bound by adequate grass.

GG and MI have both already earned a spot in the playoffs. With two games remaining, MI can, however, finish first in the league standings and earn a direct trip to the championship game. This season, they have back-to-back games at home; on Tuesday, they take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru. A direct trip to the final would give them an extra day off.
In contrast, GG has lost all five of their meetings with MI thus far.
