Auburn University has secured a significant addition to its men’s basketball program with the commitment of Kevin Overton, a 6-foot-5 guard transferring from Texas Tech. This move marks Overton’s third collegiate team in as many seasons, following stints at Drake and Texas Tech.
Career Overview
Overton began his collegiate career at Drake University, where he made an immediate impact as a freshman starter. He averaged 11.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game, shooting 44% from the field and 34.6% from beyond the arc
After transferring to Texas Tech, Overton served primarily as a reserve, appearing in 36 games with one start. He contributed 7.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, shooting 33.1% from three-point range. His efforts helped the Red Raiders reach the Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament
Fit with Auburn
Overton joins an Auburn team undergoing roster changes, including the departures of forward Chad Baker-Mazara and All-American Johni Broome. His versatility allows him to play multiple positions, providing depth and experience to the Tigers’ backcourt. Overton is the fourth addition to Auburn’s roster this offseason, joining transfers KeShawn Murphy (Mississippi State), Keyshawn Hall (UCF), and JUCO standout Emeka Opurum
With two years of eligibility remaining, Overton aims to make a significant impact at Auburn. His combination of size, defensive prowess, and scoring ability positions him as a valuable asset for the Tigers as they prepare for the upcoming season.
