In a compelling upset at the 2025 Rolex Paris Masters on 28 October 2025, Britain’s Cameron Norrie defeated world number one Carlos Alcaraz 4–6, 6–3, 6–4 to reach the third round and end Alcaraz’s 17-match winning streak at ATP Masters 1000 level.
Alcaraz, fresh from securing his eighth title of the season in Tokyo, appeared below his usual high standards. He committed 54 unforced errors, looked frustrated on court and struggled to recover after the second-set loss
Norrie, ranked 31st, engineered a strong comeback after dropping the opening set. He showed impressive composure, especially in the final set where he saved two break-points at 3–3 and then held serve to clinch victory after two hours and 22 minutes.
“This is massive… the biggest win of my career,” Norrie said afterward, adding that recovering from a last-year injury and earlier qualifying exit in Paris made the moment all the more meaningful.
For Alcaraz, the loss raises questions. Not only did his dominant Masters run come to a halt, but the defeat could impact his year-end number-one status—Jannik Sinner stands poised to overtake him if he wins in Paris.
With this result, Norrie advances to the round of 16 at a Masters event for the first time since Rome 2023, and equals his best Paris showing (third round, 2021)
In short: Norrie’s grit and steadiness overcame Alcaraz’s slip in rhythm and form, delivering one of the standout surprises of the indoor-season tournament
