The Los Angeles Lakers have terminated Joey Buss and Jesse Buss from their front office roles, part of a broader reorganization following the team’s recent sale to Mark Walter.

  • Joey Buss (41) served as the team’s alternate governor and vice president of research & development.
  • Jesse Buss (37) was the assistant general manager and director of scouting.
  • Their departures coincide with a wider overhaul, including layoffs across the Lakers’ scouting department.

Despite being removed from their executive roles, both brothers will retain their minority ownership stakes in the franchise.

In a joint statement, Joey and Jesse Buss said:

“We are extremely honored to have been part of this organization for the last 20 seasons … We wish things could be different with the way our time ended with the team.”

Their exit comes shortly after Mark Walter officially became the Lakers’ majority owner in a historic $10 billion transaction.

Jeanie Buss, their sister, will continue as the team’s governor, while Walter leads a new era of front-office leadership.
