Nick Kyrgios has registered to play the Kooyong Classic exhibition event from January 13-15, a clear signal of his intent to contest next year’s Australian Open.
The 30-year-old former Wimbledon finalist has endured a difficult run, playing just five singles matches in 2025 — his last appearance coming in March at the Miami Open. Now ranked 666th in the world and without a protected ranking, Kyrgios will require wildcard entries to compete in Kooyong and the Australian Open itself.
Despite the setbacks, Kyrgios says his knee — once a major career barrier — has shown significant improvement. “It’s not swelling. It’s not feeling bad after a session,” he said.
Nick is also lined up for other exhibitions before the season-opening Grand Slam, including a high-profile “Battle of the Sexes” match in Dubai on December 28 against Aryna Sabalenka.
The Kooyong Classic field is strong: Italian Davis Cup stars Flavio Cobolli and Matteo Berrettini, plus world No. 8 Lorenzo Musetti, are all confirmed.
