Mohamed Belloumi became the unexpected star of Hull’s first-half comeback, scoring twice in the space of six minutes to transform a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 advantage.

After the equalizer, Hull continued to press Chelsea and Lewie Coyle forced Martinez into a save with a low effort, before Semi Ajayi came extremely close to putting the visitors ahead when his header struck the crossbar.

The rebound created another opportunity, as the ball ricocheted off the woodwork before striker Oli McBurnie reacted quickest and diverted it into the path of Belloumi. Chelsea had no answer before half-time, leaving Xabi Alonso with the difficult task of changing the momentum during the interval.

The Chelsea manager responded by replacing Hato with Pep Chavarria, but Hull remained organized and difficult to break down after the restart. Tzolakis was called into action only once during the early stages of the second half, producing a save from an excellent James free-kick.

Hull also had opportunities to extend their lead, with McBurnie denied from close range by Martinez after the Argentine goalkeeper had parried Regan Slater’s effort from the edge of the penalty area.

João Pedro rescues a point for Chelsea

Chelsea eventually found the breakthrough they needed in the 66th minute, with João Pedro continuing his excellent start to the season by producing a superb finish.

The Brazilian striker received an impressive low cross from Cole Palmer and smashed a left-footed effort into the near post, giving Tzolakis little opportunity to prevent the equalizer.

The goal was another reminder of João Pedro’s growing importance to the Blues, particularly after he was named the Premier League Player of the Month. He has now scored three Premier League goals this season, continuing a strong run of form that has made him one of Chelsea’s most dangerous attacking players.

With the scores level, Chelsea pushed forward in search of a winner and came close on several occasions. Palmer and James both tested Hull’s defense with efforts from outside the box, while Rogers had an excellent opportunity inside the penalty area but saw his shot saved by Tzolakis.

Alonso also introduced Estevao Willian and Danny Welbeck as Chelsea attempted to increase the pressure, and the home side dominated the closing stages as Hull defended their point.

However, the visitors nearly produced a dramatic late winner themselves when substitute Mohamed-Ali Cho found space in the 87th minute, although his poorly struck effort was comfortably saved by Martinez.

The result leaves Hull City third in the Premier League table, while Chelsea remain fourth, although the Blues have played one more match than half of the teams in the division.

For Hull, the draw represents another impressive result in their return to the Premier League, particularly after recovering from an early setback and taking the lead at Stamford Bridge.
