FC Barcelona claimed a resounding victory against Feyenoord as they ran rampant in their UEFA Champions League 2026/2027 campaign Matchday 1 clash at the Camp Nou. Raphinha continued his clinical goalscoring start to the season with a remarkable brace, and Lamine Yamal ran the show from the flanks as Barcelona decimated Feyenoord at home. Hansi Flick’s Barcelona have had a blistering start to the season and have scored 22 goals in their first five matches of the season. 

The Camp Nou welcomed former Barcelona player and Feyenoord manager, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who was a Champions League winner in the 2005/2006 season, to the club, and he watched helplessly as his side fell to Barca’s ruthless attack.

The Raphinha show

The match got off to a perfect start for Barcelona as they opened the scoring with less than three minutes on the clock. Raphinha controlled a pass from Lamine Yamal expertly, left two defenders for dead with a magical feint and slammed the ball into the net to give The Catalans the lead. Raphinha has been in clinical form for Barca, and that was his seventh goal in five matches. 

Barcelona doubled their lead shortly after as summer signing Karim Adeyemi got in on the action. Adeyemi picked up the ball from Joao Cancelo on the left flank, took the ball in his stride as he drove at goal and unleashed an absolute rocket into the top right corner from the edge of the box. An unstoppable finish on his Champions League debut for the Catalan side. The goal was Adeyemi’s 17th Champions League goal, allowing him to overtake former Germany international Michael Ballack on Germany’s all-time highest goal scorers list in the competition. 

Feyenoord came close to halving the deficit in the 24th minute but failed to keep their shot on target. Barcelona threatened subsequently but failed to add to their tally in the opening half and took a comfortable two-nil lead into the break. 

Goal Blitz

Feyenoord were unlucky on the night, and Nacho Ferri had a goal ruled out for offside in the 55th minute. They were left to rue their missed opportunity as Raphinha extended Barcelona’s lead almost immediately. Raphinha raced onto Pedri’s brilliant defence-splitting pass and, taking a touch to set it up, he finished with aplomb for his eighth goal of the season. 

Feyenoord came close to pulling a goal back, but they had another goal controversially ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee in the 60th minute. Barcelona has been scoring for fun this season, and they picked up from where they left off in the 77th minute as Yamal curled a free kick expertly into the back of the net. 

Third time lucky  

Feyenoord’s terrible luck in front of goal came to an end as they grabbed a consolation goal in the 82nd minute. Following a dazzling run down the right flank, Goncalo Borges teased a cross that evaded everyone and Sem Steijn turned it into the net at the far post. 

Barcelona restored their four-goal margin two minutes later. Lamine Yamal released an inviting cross into Feyenoord’s 18-yard box, and 83rd-minute substitute Gabriel Jesus rose highest, connecting perfectly and planting a well-placed header into the net with his first touch of the game. A dream Champions League debut for the former Arsenal and Manchester City striker who joined the Catalan club from Arsenal on the transfer Deadline Day. Barcelona got their Champions League campaign off to a perfect start with a dominant victory at home. 

Lamine Yamal Makes History

Lamine Yamal provided two assists and netted a stunning free kick on the night. His assist for Gabriel Jesus was his 21st Champions League goal involvement, with 11 goals and 10 assists in total. He surpassed Kylian Mbappe’s previous record of 20 to become the teenager with the most goal contributions in the competition’s history.

Barcelona’s Defensive Issues Exposed

Barcelona’s defensive frailties were exposed once again as they failed to keep a clean sheet. The scoreline doesn’t do justice to the terrible state of their defence. Feyenoord were able to capitalize on their high line repeatedly but were undone by the offside flag. They were lucky to concede just once as Feyenoord’s other goals were ruled out by VAR. Barcelona have not kept a clean sheet in the competition since April 2025. If they want to win this competition, Hansi Flick has to plug his leaky defence before it becomes the bane of his deadly attack.
