Spain World Cup squad have officially been confirmed, with teenage superstar Lamine Yamal included despite injury concerns, while no player from Real Madrid made the final 26-man squad for the tournament.

The announcement from Spain coach Luis de la Fuente immediately sparked discussion across Spanish football, especially because it marks the first time in modern history that Spain will head to a major tournament without a single Real Madrid player in the squad.

The biggest headline remains the inclusion of Barcelona sensation Yamal, who has been sidelined since April after suffering a hamstring injury during a match against FC Barcelona. Despite concerns over his fitness, De la Fuente is confident the winger will be available for the tournament.

Yamal has quickly become one of the most exciting young players in world football. The 18-year-old already holds the record as Spain’s youngest-ever player and goalscorer after making his debut at just 16 years old in 2023.

Even though he missed the final month of Barcelona’s season with a torn hamstring, Luis de la Fuente has placed his faith in the youngster for the World Cup as he includes him in his Spain World Cup squad.

De la Fuente revealed there is optimism surrounding the forward’s recovery ahead of Spain’s opening group game.

Spain begin their World Cup campaign against Cape Verde on June 15 before facing Saudi Arabia and Uruguay in Group H.

The Spain manager explained that the medical staff are relaxed about the situation and expect Yamal to be fully fit before the tournament begins.

No Real Madrid Players in Spain World Cup Squad

One of the most shocking aspects of the Spain World Cup squad is the complete absence of Real Madrid players.

Defenders Dean Huijsen and Dani Carvajal were both left out, meaning no Madrid representative will travel with the national team.

The omission comes after a disappointing season for Real Madrid, who ended the campaign without silverware and finished eight points behind La Liga champions Barcelona.

Luis de la Fuente dismissed suggestions of club bias during his press conference, insisting selections were based entirely on what he believes is best for Spain.

The coach stated that he does not focus on club affiliations and only wants players who are ready to represent the national team with pride and commitment.

Barcelona Core Dominates Spain Squad

While Real Madrid have no representatives, Barcelona players dominate the Spain World Cup squad.

Yamal is joined by Pedri, Gavi, Ferran Torres, Dani Olmo, Eric Garcia and teenage defender Pau Cubarsi.

Uncapped defender Eric Garcia earned his call-up after impressing during Barcelona’s title-winning campaign, while Cubarsi continues his rise as one of Europe’s brightest defensive prospects.

Spain also handed a surprise call-up to Atletico Madrid defender Marc Pubill following a strong domestic season.

The Spain World Cup squad also contains a strong Premier League influence.

David Raya, Martin Zubimendi and Mikel Merino all represent Arsenal in the squad.

Rodri of Manchester City was also included, alongside Marc Cucurella from Chelsea and Pedro Porro from Tottenham Hotspur.

Crystal Palace winger Yeremy Pino also earned a place after an impressive campaign in England.

One major boost for Spain is the return of Merino, who recently recovered from a stress fracture that kept him out for four months. His return gives Spain additional balance and experience in midfield.

Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams was another player carrying fitness concerns heading into the tournament.

The electric winger has struggled with a hamstring problem in recent weeks, but Spain remain confident he will be ready in time.

Williams is expected to form a dangerous attacking partnership with Yamal and Ferran Torres as Spain aim to challenge for another World Cup title.

Meanwhile, Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez misses out after suffering a broken foot last week.
