Sevilla vs Barcelona: Raphinha’s Sublime Hat-trick Fires Barca to Seventh Straight League Win

by Daniel Adeniyi

Sevilla vs Barcelona ended in a convincing 3-1 victory for the Catalan giants, with Raphinha producing another sensational attacking display to complete a hat-trick and extend Barcelona’s lead at the top of La Liga.

The Brazilian forward continued his remarkable run of form at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, scoring three times after Sevilla had taken an early lead through Youssouf Fofana. Raphinha’s goals, combined with two excellent assists from teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, helped Barcelona recover from their difficult start and secure a seventh consecutive league victory.

The result takes Barcelona to 21 points, giving them a six-point advantage over both Real Madrid and Real Betis, although the Catalan side have played one game more than their closest challengers.

Sevilla made the stronger start and deservedly moved ahead in the 19th minute after producing a well-worked attacking move. Felix Correia delivered a dangerous cross towards the near post, where Fofana rose to head the ball beyond the Barcelona goalkeeper and give the hosts an early advantage.

Barcelona’s response, however, was almost immediate, and Raphinha needed only three minutes to restore parity.

The 29-year-old received possession before cutting inside and calmly placing his effort beyond Sevilla goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos. It was a composed finish that demonstrated the confidence currently running through his game, and it allowed Barcelona to reach half-time level despite Sevilla’s promising opening.

Raphinha’s equaliser also continued an extraordinary scoring run that had already seen him find the net three times in Barcelona’s previous match.

The Brazilian had scored a treble in Barcelona’s 7-2 victory over Racing Santander last Wednesday, meaning he entered the Sevilla fixture already in devastating form. He then repeated the feat to take his tally for the season to 14 goals in all competitions.

Yamal provides the inspiration

Although Raphinha took the headlines, Lamine Yamal played a major role in Barcelona’s second-half dominance.

The teenager produced the decisive contribution for Raphinha’s second goal in the 52nd minute, showing the creativity and confidence that have made him such an important part of Barcelona’s attack.

Yamal dribbled away from goal before clipping a precise cross into the area, where Raphinha arrived to head the ball beyond Vlachodimos and complete Barcelona’s turnaround.

The combination between the two attackers proved too difficult for Sevilla to contain, particularly as Barcelona began to find more space in the final third after the interval.

Yamal was involved again for Barcelona’s third goal in the 69th minute, this time producing an exquisite pass that sent Raphinha through on goal. The Brazilian showed excellent composure before deftly chipping the ball over the advancing Vlachodimos to complete Raphinha’s hattrick.

It was the perfect conclusion to another outstanding individual performance and gave Barcelona the cushion they needed to see out the final stages of the contest.

The victory extends Barcelona’s league winning streak to seven matches, while their run across all competitions has now reached eight consecutive victories.

That form has allowed the Catalan club to establish a significant advantage at the summit, with their 21 points leaving them six clear of both Real Madrid and third-placed Real Betis. However, Barcelona have played one match more than both teams, meaning the gap could change depending on the results of their rivals.

Real Madrid face city rivals Atletico Madrid on Sunday, while Real Betis travel to Deportivo La Coruna, giving both sides an opportunity to reduce Barcelona’s advantage.

For Barcelona, however, the immediate focus will be on maintaining the momentum generated by another impressive attacking performance.

Their ability to recover from conceding first was particularly encouraging, as Sevilla had taken advantage of the home crowd and started the contest with confidence. Barcelona responded without allowing the early setback to disrupt their attacking rhythm, eventually turning the match around through Raphinha’s finishing and Yamal’s creativity.

For Sevilla, the result represents a frustrating afternoon after their impressive opening to the match.

Fofana’s early header gave the hosts hope of causing an upset, and their ability to trouble Barcelona during the opening stages demonstrated why they remain competitive near the top of the table. However, once Barcelona found their rhythm, Sevilla struggled to contain the visitors’ attacking quality.

The defeat leaves Sevilla fifth on 13 points, keeping them in a strong position despite failing to hold onto their early advantage.

Barcelona’s ability to punish defensive openings ultimately proved decisive, with Raphinha repeatedly finding the space and composure required to finish the chances created for him.

The Brazilian’s form has now become one of the defining features of Barcelona’s early-season campaign. After scoring three against Racing Santander, he produced another treble only days later, taking his season tally to 14 goals in all competitions.

For Barcelona, that attacking efficiency will be particularly valuable as the season develops and the competition at the top of La Liga intensifies.

Raphinha left the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan with the match ball after another remarkable display, while Yamal once again demonstrated why his creativity is becoming such a crucial part of Barcelona’s attack. With seven consecutive league victories behind them and a six-point lead at the summit, Barcelona have made a powerful statement about their early-season ambitions.
